Chinch bugs – Does your lawn have Chinch Bugs?

Chinch Bugs

A lawn is something to be proud of. It is one of the first things that people will notice about your home, and it is a great place to spend your days with friends and family. Of course, when your lawn is turning brown and shriveling beneath your feet, it isn’t exactly something to be proud of. There are a lot of reasons why a lawn may not thrive. It could be as a result of too little water, too much sun, not enough nutrients, or bugs.

Ants, roaches, mosquitoes and slugs can all live in your grass. Sometimes, these pests will cause harm to you and your pets by biting you at every chance they get, causing burning and rash. However, not all of these pests are going to damage your lawn. Unfortunately, there are others out there who can cause a world of damage to even the absolute most well taken care of lawns.

Chinch bugs are one of the more common pests that may cause severe damage to your lawn. These are a plant eating ground bug that commonly live in grass. They look similar to roaches, but smaller and with a longer “tail.” As they travel through your yard, they will cause grass to die in large patches. Often, cinch bugs will start in a specific location and as they eat and grow in number, the brown patches will start to grow across your lawn. It is not rare to have several colonies of cinch bugs in one lawn, meaning that your grass will have several patches of brown, dying blades that are devoid of all moisture and nutrients. This will look especially worrisome in contrast to the plush green of the surrounding yard, which has not yet been inflicted by the appetite of the cinch bug.

Cinch bugs are difficult to get rid of, and often it is necessary to treat the entire yard to prevent the bug from continuing to cause damage. If they reach your garden, they can cause devastation to your crops and flowers. The best way to deal with cinch bugs is to contact a professional pest control expert.

No-one likes to see large brown spots covering their yard. This is why it is best to treat cinch bugs early on, before they grow in number. The longer you wait to treat cinch bugs, the more difficult they become to treat.
